Karva Chauth Puja Method-

Story of Karva Chauth fasting
A moneylender had seven boys and one girl. Along with Sethani, his daughter-in-law and daughter had kept the fast of Karva Chauth. When the moneylender’s boys prepared for dinner, they asked their sister for food. On this, the sister told that today is her fast and that food can be eaten only by offering Ardhya to the moon.
The youngest brother, unable to see his sister’s condition, lights a lamp on a distant tree and throws it in a sieve. Which appears as if there is a moon of Chaturthi. Seeing him, offering Ardhya, she sits down to eat. She sneezes as soon as she puts the first piece in her mouth. When she applies the second piece, the hair comes out from it and the third piece is put in her mouth, only then she gets the news of her husband’s death. She gets very sad.
His sister-in-law tells the truth about why this happened to her. The Gods are angry with her for breaking the fast wrongly. Karva then decides that she will not perform the last rites of her husband and will bring him back to life with her purity. She sits near the dead body of her husband for a whole year. takes care of him. She keeps on collecting the grass (like a needle) growing on it.
A year later, when Chauth day comes again, she observes a fast and in the evening requests the brides to say ‘Yam Sui lo, Piya Sui de do, make me a married woman like you but everyone refuses. Legend has it that in ancient times there was a virtuous woman named Karva. Once her husband went to take a bath in the river. At that moment a crocodile grabbed his leg. On this, he called Karva for help. Then Karva tied the crocodile with a raw thread with the majesty of her chastity and reached Yamraj. Karva prayed to Yamraj to save her husband’s life and give a death sentence to Magar (crocodile ). After this, Yamraj said that the life of the crocodile is still pending, he cannot die prematurely. Then Karva told Yamraj that if he did not grant Karva’s husband the boon of being viva, then she would curse him to perish with her tenacity. After this, Karva’s husband got life and the crocodile got the death sentence.
Story of Veeravati and Karva Chauth Vrat
Legend has it that Veeravati, the married daughter of Indraprasthapur Veda Sharma Brahmin, observed the fast of Karva Chauth. According to the rules, She had to eat after moonrise, but her hunger was not going right. Her brothers loved her very much and this impatience of her sister could not be seen in her. After this, the brothers spread the beautiful light of fireworks under the guise of Peepal and showed the moonrise and fed Veeravati. After this Veeravati’s husband immediately disappeared. On this, Veeravati kept a fast on every Chaturthi for 12 months and on the day of Karva Chauth, Veeravati got her husband again by this hard penance.
