Prithvi Raj Chauhan and Muhammad Ghori

In 1191 AD, between Prithvi Raj Chauhan and Muhammad Ghori Ghori, the first battle of Tarayan took place, in which Muhammad Ghori was badly defeated. Prithviraj Chauhan and Muhammad Ghori faced each other 17 times during the war and each time Ghori had to face defeat. On many occasions, Prithviraj Chauhan had saved the life of Muhammad Ghori.

Second Battle of Tarayan 1192

Disturbed by the constant defeats, Muhammad Ghori got the support of Jaichand, the ruler of Kanauj and in 1192, succeeded in conquering Prithviraj in the second battle of Tarain. Prithviraj Chauhan was imprisoned and taken to Ghazni, along with Chandbardai was also imprisoned. Muhammad Ghori broke both the eyes of Prithviraj Chauhan with hot iron bars.

Prithviraj Chauhan and Chandbardai were brought before Muhammad Ghori in the court where Ghori asked Prithviraj for his last wish. Chandbardai told Muhammad Ghori that my master is very proficient in archery and wants to perform his art. Muhammad Ghori gave the permission.

Muhammad Ghori was also present at the place where Prithviraj Chauhan was to perform his art. Chanderbardai and Prithviraj Chauhan had already devised a secret plan so that Muhammad could kill Ghori. When the whole gathering gathered, Prithviraj Chauhan started saying a couplet that ‘Char bans chaubis-gaj, Angul Ashta Praman, Ta upar Sultan hai mat chuk re chauhan’.

Prithviraj Chauhan understood the meaning of this couplet. Hearing this couplet, wah-wah Shabbas came out of Muhammad Ghori’s mouth. Muhammad Ghori did not know that Prithviraj Chauhan was adept at hitting the target accurately even without eyes. Soon, Prithviraj Chauhan shot an arrow in the chest of Muhammad Ghori. After this, Prithviraj Chauhan and Chandbardai sacrificed their lives by stabbing each other in order to avoid the misfortune caused by the enemies. Sanyogita also gave up her life after hearing the news of Prithviraj Chauhan’s death.

We also want to make it clear that this event is not confirmed historically, because the year of the death of Muhammad Ghori is clearly mentioned in the history books as 1206. But still it is clear from the legend of this incident that Prithviraj Chauhan was a brave and powerful ruler.
