Yogi Adityanath was born on 5 June 1972 in Panchur village, Yamkeshwar tehsil of Pauri Garhwal district of present-day Uttarakhand.

     While Yogi was doing his post-graduation in Mathematics in 1993, he came to Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) to do research on Guru Gorakhnath, where he went to the shelter of his uncle Mahant ‘Avaidyanath’ and took initiation.
      Ajay Singh Visht took complete retirement in 1994, after which his name was changed from Ajay Singh Visht to ‘Yogi Adityanath’.

There was a deadly attack on Yogi ji on 7 September 2008. Yogi ji barely survived the attack. The attack was so severe that the attackers surrounded more than 100 vehicles of his convoy and left people in blood.
    

Yogi arrested in Gorakhpur riots

Yogi was arrested during the Gorakhpur riots. A Hindu Yuva Vahini worker was killed in firing during the festival of Muharram. Despite the ban of the administration, Yogi insisted to see his worker. But ignoring the restrictions of the administration, Yogi along with hundreds of his supporters organized a tribute meeting despite the curfew in the city and gave his arrest. Adityanath was sent to jail after registering a case under sections 151A, 146, 147, 279, and 506 of CrPC. Opposing this arrest, Hindu Yuva Vahini started riots at various places and torched some coaches of the Mumbai-Gorakhpur Godan Express.
    The then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had to transfer District Magistrate Hariom and Police Chief Raja Srivastava to the increasing riots and the pressure of Yogi.

      Yogi purified 1800 Christians and converted to Hinduism in 2005 as part of the process of conversion. This work was done in Etah district.

Yogi’s tenure as Chief Minister

 Yogi Adityanath took oath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday 19 March 2017. The oath ceremony took place at Kanshi Ram Smriti Upvan built by former Chief Minister Mayawati. With this, for the first time in the history of Uttar Pradesh, two Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma were also elected. This year the tenure of Yogi Adityanath is being completed.
