How can anyone forget the heroine Mandakini from the movie ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’? After appearing in films, her name was Mandakini. Her real name is Yasmin Joseph. Mandakini is celebrating her 51st birthday today. She was born on 30 July 1963 in Meerut, UP in an Anglo-Indian family.
Mandakini was not Raj Kapoor’s first choice for the role of Ganga in ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’. Raj Kapoor had earlier planned to make this film with Sanjana Kapoor. Later, Dimple Kapadia’s screen test was also taken for the role of Ganga. Eventually this role came from Meerut resident Yasmin Joseph i.e. Mandakini.

Presently Mandakini runs the Mumbai Tibetan Herbal Center with her husband Dr. Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur. He was also a Buddhist monk. Mandakini also conducts yoga classes. Mandakini married Dr. Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur in the year 1990. After marriage, her husband did not change his religion and Mandakini later became a Buddhist monk. Both the couple love each other very much and they have two children, one son Rabeel and the other daughter Rabje Inaya Thakur.
