Former splash star and politician Penny Mordant has made history as she announced King Charles III as the new monarch.
A ceremony was held at St James’s Palace today (September 10, 2022) to formally confirm the succession of King Charles III to his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died on 8 September at the age of 96 Had happened.
The service was overseen by the Council of Accession, issuing eight edicts that are traditionally ensured by King Charles before making his proclamation.
Penny also led the proclamation ceremony after Prime Minister Liz Truss was appointed Commons Leader and Lord President of the Privy Council earlier this week.
However, members of the public took to social media after the ceremony to comment that the politician was also the first reality TV star to announce a new monarch, following his appearance on the ITV program The Splash.

Penny appeared on the program in 2014, training her and her fellow celebrities to dive professionally in a competition presented by Vernon Kaye and Gabby Logan.

Recalling her appearance on The Splash, a Twitter user said: “Penny Mordaunt is the first contestant from ITV’s Splash!
“BREAKING: Penny Mordant becomes the first Splash! contestant to preside over a monarch’s entrance,” commented a second.
A third addition: “A competitor on Splash that is absolutely top UK is now taking the place of our new king.”
Speaking about the ceremony, Fourth said: “It was quite a lot to see. History is being made. For the first time on television. And a former Splash! led by a contestant.”
The announcement of King Charles III as the new monarch followed his speech to the nation last night (September 9), where he addressed the changes taking place at the palace, including changes for William and Kate as Princes and Princesses of Wales. Including new titles.
The King also reflected on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, saying: “We deeply mourn the passing of a cherished sovereign and a very dear mother.
