    Google repeating the same sequence, Google recently honored Balamani Amma, the grandmother of Malayalam literature, with its own Google Doodle on July 19, 2022, on the occasion of her 113th birthday. The artist behind this work of doodle is Devika Ramachandran.

    recipient of various awards including the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1965; the Received Saraswati Samman in 1995, and India’s second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan in 1987.

    By placing him at the top of the search section, he paid a passionate tribute to the famous Indian poet. The doodle shows her sitting in her verandah, wearing a white sari, writing poetry.

Who was Balamani Amma?


Balamani Amma was a famous Indian poetess who was known for her writings in the Malayalam language. She has been in the news since Google published its most recent doodle in her memory.

On July 19, 1909, Nalapat Balamani Amma was born in Palapat, Punnayurkulam, Ponnani taluk in the Malabar district of Madras Presidency in British India. The names of his parents are Chittanjur Kunhunni Raja and Nalapat Kochukutty Amma.

He did not receive any formal schooling, but the guidance of his maternal uncle and his library of books helped him to emerge as a poet.

At the age of 19, Balamani Amma joined V.M. Nair, and the couple had four children named Kamala Surayya, Sulochana, Mohandas, and Shyam Sundar. Later she shifted to Kolkata.

She was the winner of many honors and accolades including the Ezhuthachan Award, Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan, and Saraswati Samman. He died in 2005 at the age of 94.

Her literary journey


More than 20 poetry anthologies, several prose works, and translations were all written by Balamani Amma. Having his first poem, “Koppukai”, published in 1930, he wrote several poems that received awards.

Cause of death of Balamani Amma


Amma passed away on September 29, 2004, after suffering from Alzheimer’s for five years. She was 95 years old when she died.
